Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup classic cola (choose your favorite brand or craft cola for a unique twist)
- 1/2 cup club soda or sparkling water (for that refreshing fizz)
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 1 lime, freshly squeezed)
- 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice (adds a subtle sweetness)
- 1 tablespoon grenadine syrup (for that rich, fruity “dirty” touch)
- Ice cubes (as many as you like to keep it chilled)
- Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish and aroma)
- Lime wedges (for garnish and extra zing)
If you want to switch things up, you can substitute the grenadine with pomegranate molasses for a deeper flavor, or try using lemon juice instead of lime for a slightly different citrus note. For a sugar-free version, opt for diet cola and use a sugar-free grenadine or a splash of natural fruit syrup.
Instructions
- Start by chilling your glass in the freezer for about 10 minutes. A cold glass keeps the soda crisp and refreshing, just like Mama Lou taught me when I was a kid.
- Fill the glass halfway with ice cubes. I always like to use large, clear ice because it melts slower and keeps the drink from diluting too quickly.
- Pour in the fresh lime juice and orange juice over the ice. The zing of fresh citrus is what wakes up the cola and makes this soda feel special.
- Add the grenadine syrup carefully. It sinks to the bottom and creates a beautiful layered effect—a little visual magic that never fails to impress Ouma and me.
- Pour in the cola slowly to avoid too much foam, then top off with club soda or sparkling water for that signature fizz.
- Gently stir the drink once or twice to blend the flavors without losing the bubbles. Mama Lou always said, “Be gentle with your soda, like you are with your heart.”
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves and a lime wedge on the rim of the glass for a fragrant finish.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the burst of flavors that bring you back to those cozy campfire nights.
