Creating these delectable brownies is a straightforward journey through a few key ingredients. As always, using the best quality ingredients you can find will make a difference in the final product.
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
For those who prefer a slightly different flavor profile, you can substitute dark chocolate chips for a richer taste or use whole wheat flour for added texture.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper. Mama Lou always said, “A well-prepped pan is the secret to a perfect bake.”
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the sugar until smooth.
- Whisk in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Ensure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the graham cracker crumbs until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Layer the mini marshmallows and chocolate chips over the batter, creating a gooey center.
- Top with the remaining brownie batter, ensuring the marshmallows and chocolate are mostly covered.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking to keep them fudgy.
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before slicing. This is when Ouma and I would sit at the kitchen table, eager to taste our creation, sharing stories while we wait.
