Learn how to make delicious Taco Ranch Bites. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 package wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: Sour cream and salsa for serving

Feel free to swap the ground beef for turkey or a plant-based alternative to suit your dietary preferences. The beauty of cooking is in its flexibility, much like how Mama Lou would always adjust recipes to accommodate our taste buds.

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the taco seasoning mix to the beef, following the packet instructions and stirring until well combined. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the cooled beef, shredded cheese, cream cheese, ranch dressing, chopped tomatoes, and green onions until well incorporated.
  4. Take a wonton wrapper and place a small spoonful of the beef mixture in the center. Fold the wrapper edges over to seal, using a dab of water to help them stick if necessary.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F. Carefully add the prepared wontons, a few at a time, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining wontons.

Mama Lou always said the secret to the perfect crisp was in the oil temperature and not overcrowding the pan, a tip I cherish and pass on to you.
