Ingredients
Scale
- 200g spaghetti or any pasta of choice
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a little heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Optional Add-Ons:
- 150g cooked chicken breast, sliced
- 100g shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 cup baby spinach
Shopping Tips: Choose pasta that is firm to the touch, and opt for high-quality olive oil for the best flavor. Fresh garlic elevates the dish, so avoid pre-minced options.
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing until the garlic is fragrant and golden, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing it gently to coat in the garlic oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- If using, add your choice of protein and vegetables, stirring until everything is heated through and well combined.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Toss to combine, ensuring the cheese melts into the pasta.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy the comforting flavors reminiscent of a warm hug from Mama Lou.
