Learn how to make delicious Honey Garlic Chicken. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Feel free to substitute the apple cider vinegar with rice vinegar for a slightly different tang, or use chicken thighs instead of breasts for a richer flavor.

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Season them with salt and pepper, ensuring each piece is evenly coated.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken and set it aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic, cooking until it’s fragrant and golden, about 1 minute.
  4. Lower the heat and pour in the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to combine and let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Pour this into the sauce and stir until it thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Return the chicken to the skillet, tossing it in the sauce until each piece is well coated. Let it simmer for another 2 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired, and serve hot.

Mama Lou always said that the secret to a great dish is in the details. Make sure to taste as you go, adjusting the sweetness or saltiness to fit your preference.
