Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for laminating)
- Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for extra flavor
If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding a teaspoon of cinnamon or cardamom for a spicy twist, just like Mama Lou used to do when she wanted to surprise us with something special.
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a large rectangle.
- Spread the softened butter over the entire surface of the dough using a spatula.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from one long side.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Place each piece into a muffin tin, with the cut side facing up.
- Let the cruffins rise for another 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the cruffins for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and flaky.
- Let them cool slightly before serving, as the aroma will tempt you to dive in immediately!
As you bake, remember that patience is key. Like Mama Lou always said, “Good things come to those who wait… and bake with love.”
