Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
For those looking to make the recipe a bit healthier, you can swap the granulated sugar for coconut sugar and use almond milk instead of whole milk. These substitutions won’t compromise the deliciousness of the final product.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until well blended.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the bread dense.
- In a small bowl, mix together the ground cinnamon and brown sugar.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and cinnamon sugar on top.
- Use a knife to gently swirl the cinnamon sugar into the batter, creating a marbled effect.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. This was Mama Lou’s trick to ensure the flavors meld perfectly.
