Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Feel free to substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark chocolate chips if you prefer a more intense chocolate flavor.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Mama Lou always said to mix it until it looked like a pale yellow cloud.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. This step is crucial for a smooth batter, as Mama Lou would always remind me.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
