Ingredients
- 1 pound pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
- 2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded
- 8 slices of deli ham
- 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
If you can’t find Swiss cheese, Gruyere is a wonderful substitute, offering a slightly nuttier taste. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free pizza dough and ensure all other ingredients are certified gluten-free.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 12×15 inches.
- Spread Dijon mustard evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Layer the ham slices over the mustard, followed by the shredded chicken and Swiss cheese.
- Starting from one of the long edges, carefully roll up the dough into a log, sealing the edges by pinching them together.
- Transfer the stromboli to the prepared baking sheet, seam side down.
- Brush the top with beaten egg and sprinkle with Italian herbs, salt, and pepper.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
As you bake, you’ll notice the delightful aroma wafting through your kitchen, much like Mama Lou’s kitchen during our Sunday gatherings. It’s these little moments that make cooking so special.
