Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F. Begin by preparing the biscuit dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Roll it out to fit a 12-inch pizza pan, then transfer it to the pan.
- Bake the biscuit base for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden. Meanwhile, in a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and crumbled.
- Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage, stirring for about a minute. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens into gravy. Season with black pepper.
- Once the biscuit base is ready, spread the sausage gravy evenly over it. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh chives if desired. Slice and serve warm.
